Our story

The people behind Stoneridge

Our life with Belgian Malinois shaped a small home program focused on individual puppies and considered placements.

A memory that stayed with us

My first encounter with a Belgian Malinois happened at a neighbor’s farm. I watched a mahogany-and-black dog move between flock and family with an attention that held mine. The connection between that dog and the people around her stayed with me through the years.

When my partner and I could make room for the demands of living with a Malinois, we returned to that farm’s lineage. We learned from breeders who emphasized temperament before training. Then we began the slower, everyday work of learning from our own dogs.

Our beginnings

Two dogs, years of learning, and a name from home.

We began with a male with steady nerves and a female with confidence in new surroundings. Over our first five years, routines, handling, and changes in the environment taught us how much there was to notice. Friends asked about our dogs. Trainers asked about breeding decisions. Families began asking about puppies.

The granite outcropping behind our property became a place for our foundation dogs to train. Its uneven ground and changes in elevation became part of our story, and the name Stoneridge followed. We continue to place importance on knowing the dog in front of us and understanding the person who hopes to take that dog home.

Our mission

Raise puppies we know. Help owners make informed choices.

We keep limited litters so we can raise our puppies in our home, handle them daily, and observe their responses to people and everyday experiences. We discuss those observations with prospective owners alongside health clearances and pedigree information.

Our conversations include experience, lifestyle, and expectations. We answer questions directly, including questions that may lead someone to decide a Malinois is not the right fit. This is how we put our existing commitment to placement into practice.

Our vision

A relationship that continues as the dog grows.

Our purpose extends beyond the day a puppy leaves. We want owners to understand the commitment they are taking on and to remain in contact as their dogs mature. Our source of direction is the same partnership that first drew us to the breed: daily attention, shared work, and an owner who keeps learning.

We remain available to puppy owners when new questions arise. That ongoing relationship, together with careful placement, is the future we want for the puppies we raise.

What daily attention looks like

Our puppies experience household activity, children, livestock, travel, and different handlers. We notice the puppy who needs encouragement and the one who needs boundaries. Those differences give us something specific to discuss with you, rather than a promise about what every puppy will become.
