Your Belgian Malinois Puppy’s First Week at Home
Use the first week to learn your puppy’s needs and organize care. A simple written routine can help everyone in the household follow the same plan.
Arrival day: keep the plan manageable
Have the agreed recipient available and keep your contact phone accessible. Check the puppy and accompanying records, record the handover time, and raise concerns promptly. The Stoneridge delivery policy asks owners to keep the first day calm and follow the feeding and care guidance provided.
Choose who will handle immediate care and who will put documents and supplies away. You can save a longer round of introductions for another day. Leave room in the schedule to observe the puppy rather than filling every hour with a new activity.
Write a household schedule
Make a short daily checklist for feeding, toilet opportunities, supervised time, rest, and the care tasks you have agreed with your veterinarian. Add the name of the person responsible beside each task. Use the puppy’s existing care guidance as the starting point and ask before making changes you do not understand.
Keep notes you can use: appetite, questions about the routine, and anything you want to discuss at the appointment. Avoid treating another puppy’s schedule as a prescription for yours. Your veterinarian can help you adjust feeding and activity to the puppy’s age, condition, and development.
Bring the records to the first visit
Arrange the initial veterinary examination within three days of arrival, as stated in our policies. Bring the care folder and calendar so the veterinarian can review previous care and plan what comes next. Prepare a list of questions about food, vaccinations, parasites, handling, and suitable activity.
If your puppy seems unwell, seek veterinary advice. Do not wait for a breeder response before obtaining urgent care. The Health Guarantee explains reporting and evidence requirements for qualifying claims.
Review the plan together
At the end of the week, discuss what worked and what needs support. Is one person carrying too much of the routine? Do you need clearer household rules or professional help with training? Keep questions specific when you contact us, and use your notes to explain what you have observed.
